Eyebrow Transplant

What is eyebrow loss and why can it occur?

Eyebrow loss can occur for a number of different reasons. This may include an accident such as a car crash or being in a fire, where the hair is singed off or falls out due to stress. Hair loss can also occur because of various illnesses, including obesity or anaemia. If someone uses tweezers to remove eyebrow hair then this can cause the hair follicle to stop growing back the root and therefore over a period of years, it will eventually not grow back at all. Radiotherapy or chemotherapy can also cause hair to fall out so if someone has had a disease such as cancer and undergone these treatments, an eyebrow transplant may be the only way around it.

What is an eyebrow transplant?

Eyebrow transplants are still fairly new to the UK, when they arrived here in 2008 after being common in the USA. It can take a few hours and involves taking hair from the head and replanting it into the eyebrow area. These are done one at a time and can be anything from around 50 to 325 hairs per eyebrow, so can be quite a long process. You need to be very patient and be prepared to experience some pain, although an anaesthetic will probably be administered.

What are the costs involved?

Generally the procedure costs about £2000, but may vary on a number of factors such as location and level of the surgeon. Make sure you research prices carefully to make sure you aren’t getting ripped off and try to find reviews from previous patients so you know you are going with a decent clinic. Your health and safety is the most important thing in these situations so just be careful and don’t rush into any decisions.

What are the side effects?

There aren’t that many side effects but some crusting can appear around each hair first of all but should go away soon. You may also see some mild redness and have a little sensitivity in that area but shouldn’t cause too many problems to your lifestyle. The hairs fall out after 2 weeks and then start growing back forever after about 3 months so it is not an immediate quick fix process as will take a while to get back to a normal appearance. It will definitely be worth it in the long run as eyebrows can improve someone’s overall facial look dramatically.
