LATISSE
An introduction to LATISSE and what it is used for
Some people experience eyelash loss over their lifetime due to various different factors such as stress, chemotherapy or other medical conditions, or simply may not be born with many in the first place. There is a treatment on offer called LATISSE, which helps to remedy this. Both men and women can opt for this, although of course it is more popular with women, who feel pressure to improve their appearance and to fit in with society’s idea of what a woman should look like.
How does LATISSE work?
LATISSE includes an ingredient called Bimatoprost, which works by enhancing the appearance of the existing eyelashes, increasing their length and thickness, and making them darker. It is simply a liquid that you apply once a day to your upper set of lashes. You will have a doctor to talk you through the process beforehand as well as discussing any possible side effects, to make sure you are fully happy and prepared to go ahead with the treatment. It doesn’t work straight away as the results are seen over a period of about four months.
What are the side effects and disadvantages?
With most types of medical and cosmetic treatments, there may be some side effects involved, but it can vary from person to person. The majority of people wont have a huge problem with the treatment but there is a chance of redness, itchiness and dry skin around the eye area. In rare cases, there might also be a slight change of colour to the skin. If you experience a severe allergic reaction, you should consult your doctor immediately and discontinue using the product. Your eyelashes will go back to looking like they did before but you may be able to discuss some other treatment options instead.
What are the advantages?
There are many advantages to using LATISSE. The main one is that it will improve your appearance and therefore your confidence, making you happier overall. The price is fairly affordable considering the other treatments out there such as eyelash transplants, and is obviously less evasive and stressful than surgery. It does work over a longer period of time but this can be a good thing as your appearance will chance gradually, so you can get used to the look and feel of your new eyelashes as they change and improve week upon week.
